Reversi features the classical strategy board game (also known as Othello) where two players aim at getting a majority of the discs on the board in their color. The players take turn and place discs with their color on the board. When a disc is placed, discs of the opponent's color are captured if they are closed in by the placed disc and another disc of the players color. The winner is the player that has the most discs at the end of the game.

The game features multiple computer controlled players of varying expertise and with varying playing style. The difficulty of an opponent depends not only on expertise, but also on the general difficulty level that is being played. Initially only a few of the opponents can be selected for single games or tournaments. Additional players are unlocked by completing tournaments.

Reversi can be played either in single game mode or in tournament mode. In tournament mode, multiple players face each other in a series of games. After all players have met each other, the top two players meet each other in a final.
